What to Do? - Colouring Page

Colouring is important for our young children and provides a number of benefits:

  • Colour recognition - sitting with your child and talking through colours, combinations and when painting how mixing colours makes a brand new colour. Developing a sense of how different colours can change the appearance of a picture
  • Develops hand strength and hand-eye coordination - this will help to improve fine motor skills, dexterity and support pencil grip
  • Stimulates creativity - giving the child the opportunity to colour how they like, engaging in processing colours and shapes
  • Encourage expression - your toddler might not be able to understand their feelings, or how to express them. Like in adults, colouring is a way to express emotion in a calm and safe environment
  • Concentration - colouring requires a great deal of concentration and focus to develop a steady hand, recognise colours and shapes and overall levels of concentration
  • A sense of pride - with a completed picture your child will feel a sense of pride and accomplishment
